Influenster Spice VoxBox Review

Best. VoxBox. Yet. The Spice box had some great stuff in it that is definitely getting a lot of use. I'm looking forward to seeing what's in the future boxes.

What's Inside?!

Soapbox Coconut Shampoo & Conditioner: Great smelling, low foaming shampoo and I love their mission to help others.

Not Your Mother's Whip IT Up Styling Mousse: Are they trying to get me to eat this?! It smells like sugar cookies and looks/feels just like whipped cream! My hair smells Ahhhh-mazing! I added a dollop to wet hair and simply blow-dried it. It gave me a lot of volume and defined my natural curls. Loving this stuff.

SinfulColors SinfulShine 2-Step Manicure: Super shiny and long-lasting! I usually only get a good day or two of chip-free nails but this one lasted a full week and still looked great.

Good Health Veggie Stix: Delicious, kid-friendly snack. I thought they tasted a lot like french fries... #healthysnackwin

Yogi Tea: I received Sweet Tangerine Positive Energy (Supports Elevated Mood and Energy Levels) and Vanilla Spice Positive Energy (Energizes The Body & Focuses The Mind). Both of these teas tasted great and I did seem to notice that I was more focused after drinking them. I will definitely purchase more of these ones. I have always been a big fan of Yogi Tea.

Foot Petals Give 'Em The Boot: Soft and comfy, keeps feet nice and warm but not sweaty!

Monthly Subscription Review ~ Play! by Sephora ~ November 2015

Holyfuckingshit. This is everything. I heard about Play! by Sephora somewhat late in the game so I had to jump on the waitlist. Luckily, I didn't have to stay there too long before I got the email saying that I was good to go. I was thrilled to see this pop up as I have been consistently disappointed with Ipsy. They are pretty hit or miss and even though it is only $10/month it is not worth getting black eyeliner and mascara over and over again. Not even fucking kidding. Let me tell you how thrilled I was to NOT receive any mascara in my Play! box.

Play! by Sephora is also only $10/month and the value is much greater than anything Ipsy has ever sent out. The thing I love most about this subscription is these are my favorite brands that I buy regularly. I have never-not once-purchased something that I received in my Ipsy bag. Most items that I received from Ipsy have gone into a drawer or were given away. I will use everything that came in the November box. Granted, this is my first box and that can easily change come next month, but my first impression is definitely a good one.

Product Review ~ Missha Magic Cushion SPF50+/PA+++

I have been hearing a lot about "cushion" foundations (or BB creams) this year. After a bit of researching I was quite intrigued with the products that popped up but I am always hesitant to pull the trigger on trending products. I have such a hard time with drugstore/low-end foundations so often that I just stopped trying. However, I just so happened to receive a sample of the Laneige BB Cushion in a sample box (Target Beauty Box, I believe) and I was completely sold on the whole cushion thing. The only problem with the Laneige version was the horrendous smell that never went away. It gave me a headache and made me sick to my stomach and I ended up just tossing the rest of my sample.

A few months later I happened across a giveaway for the Missha Magic Cushion and I was beyond fucking stoked to enter! As per usual, I completely forgot about entering and was pleasantly surprised to find a mysterious package in my mailbox one day. I guess I was expecting to just get a sample or something because I was shocked to find a full-sized compact in the box, as well as a ton of foil packet samples.

The packaging itself is very sleek and sturdy. I have been looking for a good compact to stick in my bag but my skin doesn't do well with most powder foundations. This is the perfect thing for me to take on the go and I am not afraid that it will get destroyed in the black hole that is my purse.

The wear time on this was pretty decent for a BB cream. It wore more like a foundation for me. Coverage was about medium and easily buildable. Not only does it look amazing on first application but it's so easy to touch-up without giving me cake-face or looking out of place. It just blends together seamlessly. The sponge that comes with it actually works pretty well but I found that a damp Beauty Blender gave a more flawless finish (as Beauty Blender does).

I received shade No. 21 and it was only a tad bit light for me (Fair w/ Neutral Undertones). It will be a much better match the further into the winter we get and it is easily adjusted with bronzer. The smell is quite pleasant and dissipates after a few minutes of application.

Overall, the Missha Magic Cushion is a huge win for me. I don't have anything negative to say about it and at only $16 I am kind of surprised how good it actually is. I also love that it is REFILLABLE! Hell.Yes. I have been wanting to try some Missha products for the longest time and this has definitely got me wanting more.

Product Review ~ Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation

This foundation made its way into my life via the Influenster VoxBox. I was pretty excited to try it as I have seen it promoted *everywhere* lately. So, I did as I was told and I took the 3-Week Better Skin Challenge and I am no longer feeling so excited. I have severely mixed feelings about this stuff and I am going to try by best not to be overly negative. (I said I would try!)

When I first applied it I noticed how lightweight it felt. It almost felt like nothing on my skin! I had high hopes at this point. However, I then noticed their "Medium to Full Coverage" claim was a bit off. I was able to achieve semi-medium coverage after 2 coats but surprisingly it still didn't feel heavy on my skin. Unfortunately, it looked terrible as it accentuated every line, wrinkle, crevice, dry patch and pore. I applied it a few different ways hoping that it might help give it a more flawless appearance. I think the Beauty Blender looked the best. I also tried mixing it with CoverFX pigment drops and it helped tremendously with the coverage but only helped slightly with the look of it.

My other gripe is that it wore quite poorly. After only a couple of hours I was very oily and it had already started wearing off of my nose and around my mouth. I did notice that once I took it off, my skin felt very soft and supple. I also noticed a slight change in the overall tone of my skin after the three week wear test. I will keep trying different methods to see if I can make it work with my skin better. I hate to let it go to waste and since it seems to do good things for my skin I would like to keep at it.

Overall, I guess I'm pretty middle of the road on this one. I'd say if you don't have skin texture issues like I do then it might be worth a try.

Physicians Formula Argan Wear Review

I can not begin to explain how excited I was for this launch. Not only am I obsessed with Argan oil (I put that shit on everything!) but I love everything about Morocco. The art, the clothes, the patterns, the food. I love it so much I went as far as tattooing a map of it on my body. So when this collection came out I jumped on it. Sadly, it was kind of a let down for me.

Ultra-Nourishing Argan Oil BB Cream:

I had high hopes for this since my skin gets terribly dry in the winter and BBs are where it's at for me. I liked the texture of this one as well as the way it plumped and hydrated my skin. However, it didn't seem to wear well and it accentuated dry skin and active breakouts. If my skin had been in good shape at the time I would have loved this BB cream for an everyday, easy face. However, the smell was unbearable. Many people claimed that it dissipated after a while but I could still smell it just as much after 8 hours of wear.

Ultra-Nourishing Argan Oil Bronzer:

I need another bronzer like I need a hole in the head, but it was so pretty I couldn't resist! We all know I despise over-sprays but that was easily knocked off by a gentle swirling with a brush. It was a bit on the orange side for my liking as I am pretty damn pale but it blended like a dream! It was so smooth and flawless looking. I was extremely impressed. Except for the smell. The terrible, horrible, no good, very bad smell. I watched a YouTube video where celebrity makeup artist "Roxy" refers to it as a "musk and vanilla" scent. That actually sold me on it before I purchased it, but this is definitely not that kind of scent. It is a very strong incense smell. Overpowering and headache inducing. This one also seemed to linger long after applied.

Ultra-Nourishing Argan Oil Blush:

Like the bronzer, the blush blended effortlessly and gave the prettiest flush to my skin. I bought this in the color natural and it was perfect for my skin tone. I did have to be careful when dipping my brush in it because you can get too much of the coral shade and really go overboard on color. Then, there is the smell. Again. It was not as bad as the BB and the bronzer but it was still very noticeable.

Final Verdict:

Overall, I was mostly impressed with the line save for the scent. I actually ended up returning the BB and the bronzer. I just could not handle the smell. It even made me nauseated after wearing it all day. Had they not smelled so bad I would have happily kept them.

Monthly Subscription Review ~ Ipsy Bag ~ February 2015 (And product WARNING!)

Brace yourself. Shit is about to get real. I am writing this with a deep ache in my heart. Words cannot express the incredible loss I feel today due the sudden and painful death of my fucking lashes

Allow me to elaborate. This month many "Ipsters" received an eyelash curler. I was pretty excited about this as I only have one and I would love to have a back up for my purse. Well, my 'fuck yeahs' quickly turned to 'fuuuck nos' as I read an email from Ipsy explaining that some of the curlers were misaligned and causing damage to lashes. They advised everyone to check theirs for this defect. I should have thrown the damn thing away immediately! But a girl cain't throw away a perfectly good makeup tool now! That there is called blasphemy! So, I obeyed the email and went to check my curler. I pressed it down as far as it would go. So far so good. I released it and tried again. No obvious defect detected. I shook the damn thing to see if mishandling it could cause a problem. Same outcome. Hmm... Looks safe to me... WRONG, BITCH! My trust in Ipsy (and Emite Make Up) was forever shattered.  As were my lashes that were now sprinkled about my vanity and clinging precariously to the curler. Oh HELL no! I just sat there with my mouth agape, looking from the mirror to the curler and shaking my head. What the fuck just happened?! This cannot be happening! Oh yes. It can. And it did. Congratulations! You found the defective curler! After somewhat composing myself I pressed down on the curler again and this time the top slid right past the rubber pad and grazed the inside of the bottom lip creating a scissor-like effect. I literally just cut my eyelashes off.

According to Ipsy, they are currently "working with Emite to investigate the issue." If you received this curler I beg you to just throw it out. Or see if you can send it back to Ipsy and get a replacement product. For the love of makeup gods, don't fucking use it! Your lashes will thank you.

Anyone know of a good place to buy bulk lashes? >_<

Le sigh....

~Now for the actual review...~

Eva NYC
Up All Night Volumizing Spray: Great texturizing spray! I think it smells like cologne which is kind of weird and the smell hangs around for quite a while.

Mitchell and Peach
Fine Radiance Face Oil: Lightweight, absorbs quickly. Very light floral/rose scent. Works great.

City Color Cosmetics
Creamy Lip Stain: Smooth, not sticky. Incredibly pigmented. Reminds me of NYX Soft Matte Lip Creme.

ModelCo

Monthly Subscription Review ~ Wantable Makeup Box ~ January 2015

January is the third month I have received the Wantable makeup box and I still feel a bit on the fence about it. At $40 a month I expect to be blown away. While there have have been some great finds in this box I have still received some pretty disappointing products. I do, however, feel that their customer service is exceptional which is incredibly hard to find these days. I even received an email just yesterday mentioning changes to the return process to make it better and easier to return items that you do not like. That is a huge plus in my book. As I have discussed in the past, I have issues returning products but I might try just to see how whole thing works. And if not... Kitty gets new makeup. And I know she ain't mad about that!

What's In The Box?

Bodyography Cream Shadow in Gleam:
At first, I was horribly put off when I saw this. I am not a huge fan of chunky glitter and this was littered with it. I refrained from digging my filthy fingers into it until I found some swatches online. I figured that the glitter was only an over spray and that turned out to be the case. It is actually a very pretty bronze shadow. It is very easy to blend and quick to throw on. I placed it all over the lid and blended it up into the crease then added a bit more on the lid. It looked like I actually spent a decent amount of time putting it on when in reality it took about 5 seconds. It looked neat and well put together. But seriously... fuck over sprays.

Lord & Berry Shiny Lipstick in Nudo:
I'm still butt hurt about this one. This stuff glides on like a dream. It is smooth and pigmented and smells lovely and sweet. But... it's nude. And I don't mean just your typical everyday nude. I mean nuuuuude. Nekkid. Bare-assed, never seen the sun kind of nude. It looked pretty swatched on my hand but on my lips it made me look dead or like I just ate an entire bag of powdered donuts. Or got carried away with the cocaine. Had I received a different color I would have been smitten.

Spellbound Eternal Top Coat:
It's a top coat. Nothing special. It got the job done. It's certainly no Seche Vite, but it works.

Seta Retractable Kabuki Brush:
It's cute and green and soft and great for travel. It also drags disgustingly across your face when you try to set your makeup. And takes foundation with it as you use it. Maybe it would work well with something like a powder foundation where there's nothing else for it to cling to but trying to put powder over a normal foundation was a complete fail.

Overall, this was a pretty disappointing box. I did make a couple requests for my February box so I am interested to see how that turns out. I have heard from many people that Wantable will try their best to accommodate you in that regard. I might even have to go back and retake my style quiz to see if I can't get some better products. I do like that I have the option to opt out of certain products that I do not want to receive. Maybe I need to nix the nudes and tools? I guess we will see what the next box has to offer!

Monthly Subscription Review ~ Ipsy Bag ~ January 2015

This month's theme is appropriately named Fresh Start. As we are getting into the groove of the new year and new resolutions it's nice to give your makeup and skin care routine a makeover, too. One of my goals this month is to use up as many products as possible that are close to their expiration date or half used, so I am excited to possibly find some new additions. There were some great products in this bag as well as a couple duds, but 3 out of 5 ain't bad! Let's check 'em out!

The Bag: Has a simple and clean look to it. Seems like a durable little bag. One of my favorites so far.

Product #1: BelláPierre Shimmer Powder. I received this in the color Whesek. I have swatched this numerous times and used it on my eyes both wet and dry and I still am not quite sure how I feel about it. It looks like a different color every time I look at it! It also looks very different in person than it does online. Not to mention the pictures online vary by website. When I first opened it I thought it was a dark blue or purple, then I swatched it and it looked like a shimmery periwinkle. Then I took it into better light and it was more of a silvery, gun metal color. I applied it to my eyes and it took on a more blue color. I swear this eyeshadow is fucking bipolar! I don't think I want to even bother with this product any more than I already have. There are so many other shades that I think I would have liked better.

Product #2: Elizabeth Mott All Over Shadow Brush. I am in love with this brush. Maybe only for the fact that it is pink, but I am okay with that. I haven't had a lot of time with it but it does seem like a quality brush. The bristles are soft and they pick up color nicely.

Product #3: Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow. This is a lovely, light eyeshadow. I was sent the shade Ethereal. The color is smooth and pigmented yet not overly shiny. It gives off a nice, subtle glow. This will get a lot of use as an inner corner highlight. I plan to try it as a face highlight and I will try to update my review once I do.

Product #4: Jouer Essential Lip Enhancer. When I first put this on I was surprised at how tingly my lips were. It wasn't that typical burning sensation that many plumping lip glosses have but it was definitely noticeable. However, the second time I put it on I did not feel anything. I'm not sure if maybe I didn't apply as much as the initial test but I did find it rather peculiar. It has a light rose scent to it and it made my lips feel super hydrated. This could easily replace my Dior Creme de Rose lip balm. (Not that I would actually want to replace it, but for "dupes" sake, let's pretend!)

Products #5: La Fresh Eco-Beauty Be Good. Good Day. Day Moisturizer. I was pretty "meh" about this one. It's not that it's bad, but it's definitely boring to me. It's just another moisturizer, nothing special. I have dry skin. Always. All the time. There is a lotion and/or moisturizer in literally every room of my house! I really don't need more samples to add to the clutter. That being said, the good thing about this one is the packaging. It is your typical foil packet-like sample but it has a cap on it. I could easily throw this in my purse without it taking up much room and it's bound to get used. So, there's that...

Verdict: I give this bag a 3.5/5. I feel like I should toy with the Whesek shadow a bit more before I officially decide that I hate it and eventually find it a new home-but the rest of the products will definitely get some good mileage. I do wish I would have received something different instead of two eyeshadows. I have enough shadows to last a lifetime. Two in one bag is a bit much, no?

Spit It Out!

Have you received your Ipsy bag yet? What were your favorite items? If you got one of the BelláPierre shadows let me know which color you received and if you've had a similar experience with it. I'd love to hear your feedback or suggestions for using it.
