Urban Decay Vice 3 Review

I purchased this palette last week and have spent a few days trying it out. This thing is beautiful. The shades are the usual UD quality. The mattes are a bit too soft but very pigmented and blendable. The other shades are super smooth and buttery and have excellent pigmentation. I feel like I am going to get a lot of use out of all of the shades as opposed to the Vice 2 that had a few shadows that I probably will never touch. The great thing about the Vice 3 is that it is definitely an all in one palette. You can easily travel with it and not have to take along an extra neutral palette. If I had to choose between all of the Vice palettes I would pick this one in a heartbeat.

What do you think of the new Vice palette? How do you think this one compares to the 1 and 2?

Urban Decay Vice 3 Soon to Launch

Urban Decay is teasing us again! Like I needed to see this right now... Ugh! I'm obsessed. From what I have seen, this looks like it may just top the Vice 2! I can't wait to see it up close. I am sure it is going to be amazing as usual. However, I really wish these companies would spread out their palette launches a bit more. You're killin' me, Smalls!

Here are some extra pics for you to check out from the blog post that has been circulating.

Product Return Shaming

When I plan to buy any makeup or skincare product I am diligent in my research before purchasing. I scour the internet for reviews, swatches,YouTube videos, etc. I will spend days making  a decision because I absolutely despise having to return a product. Maybe it's my own tendency toward wallowing in guilt or maybe it's the stigma behind the act of returning something. There is a big black cloud lingering around the subject. If you do a search online you will find an infinite number of opinions but I think for the most part people are very much against it. I definitely feel judged every time I walk into Sephora with a return, whether it be used or unused. Where in the hell did this negativity begin? Snooty rich bitches who can afford to throw a $50 foundation in a drawer and never use it?! Honey, I ain't got money falling out of my ass. I have to be ecstatic over my high-end foundation in order to keep it. Come to think of it, I even returned a drug store foundation because it looked horrendous... I seem to have a pretty tumultuous relationship with foundation, but I digress...

In my opinion, if you are not abusing the privileged of returning products then you should, by all means, return something that does not work for you. If I get "color matched" for a foundation in the horrid lighting of Sephora and get home to find that I look like an Oompa Loompa you bet your ass I will be taking that shit back. You are not doing anything wrong and you are not hurting anyone by taking a product back. These are very large companies that we are talking about - they anticipate (and budget) for this exact thing. I know the idea of all that makeup being tossed out and wasted is hard to bear but, according to a Sephora rep, if they can sanitize it they will use it as a tester and if the product is not sanitary it will then be "destroyed". I think most products these days fall under the "sanitary" or "can be sanitized" category. I personally refrain from purchasing products in pot form as I don't like to constantly put my hands into something I put on my face every day - because... eww.

Now, all that being said, I by no means agree with someone taking back old, half empty products you've had lying around for years just to get some free makeup. I had seen a blog post a while back outlining how to screw over Sephora with their return policy. That's just down right shitty and well.. Karma is a bitch. If you do this, I hope your new makeup gives you crater face.

Anyway, I have some things to go return now and I'm going to try to not feel guilty about it! Don't judge. This Clinique concealer has got to go!

What is your stance on returning products? Do you feel guilty about returning makeup?

MAC Is Ruining My Life!

The same day I received my MAC Simpsons Collection splurge I find out that they will be launching a Rocky Horror Picture Show collection at the end of the month. Seriously? I just peed a little.

Listen, MAC, we've been together for a long time but I strongly believe we need to take a break for a while. It's not me - it's you. My bank account just can't take this kind of stress. I CAIN'T HANTLE IT!  There's only so much overtime I can work in order to afford to keep you in my life. Two must-have collections within a month is just too much!

I guess I'll be eating tuna fish and ramen noodles for a while...

If you want to be a sweet transvestite like I do, then jump on over to Temptalia's in depth post about the new collection. It's astounding...

Electric Challenge #5

This one is for Kitty who requested that I recreate a post from the very talented @makeupmouse on Instagram. The problem is that I am lacking in the "Mad Skills" department. Lucky for you I am really good at bringing mediocre talent to the table.

Revolt and Thrash were the last two shadows in the palette that I hadn't used much this week. I tried to keep the focus on those colors without it looking like a drunk hooker did my makeup. Apparently, the drunk hooker forgot to pluck some rogue eyebrow hairs before starting this endeavor... She is so fired.

I'm sad to say I am pretty relieved this week is over. I was definitely running out of ideas! It was fun while it lasted, though. Now gimme back my neutral makeup!

How do you like them purple brows? Spectacular, I know...

Electric Palette Challenge #2, #3, #4

I'm almost there! Here are my #electricchallenge looks for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

For Tuesday I went solely with colors from the Electric palette except for a light blending shade from Naked Basics. It turned into a very mermaid-like creation. I love these colors together but I would probably never wear this look out of the house. I would have to be feeling very bold that day! What can I say? I enjoy my nudes. Don't judge.

Wednesday, I was in a very autumnal mood. I normally have an idea of what look I am striving for before I begin but I just started throwing random colors on my face. Once I had blended all of the Electric palette colors together I achieved a lovely rusty red color which I was quite proud of. I used Tini Beauty's Eyetini Cordial Cream Shadow in Spiced Rum and topped it with Lorac's Gold. I will definitely be wearing this one again once Fall arrives.

Chaos immediately called to me when I opened my palette today. I seem to be gravitating toward the blue shades which is quite unexpected. Over the years, I was instilled with the idea that blue eyeshadow is supposed to stay in the 80s, so I never attempt to wear it. I love the way it looks on other people but I feel like a clown with it on. However, I am pretty happy with this look and I may even wear it again! I think it would be perfect for a date night occasion. I started with W.O.S. and Naked 2 from the Basics palette for an easy transition. I used Milk from NYX as a base and packed on Chaos until it was as intense as I wanted. I then built up Crave to deepen the outer corner. (Remind me to use a better black next time...) I lined my eyes with NARS Larger Than Life liner in Via Veneto and highlighted the inner corner with Cailyn Mineral Eyeshadow in Champagne.

Tomorrow is the last day! I suppose I had better step it up. I still have not really used the yellow or silver shades and I have no idea how I am going to pull this off... Stay tuned to see what I pull out of my ass for the #electricchallenge finale!

Do you wear blue eyeshadow? If so, how do you pull it off without teased hair and plastic hoop earrings?

LORAC Mega Pro!!!

Be still my beating heart! This was brought to my attention yesterday by a friend of mine - you will come to know her as "Kitty". We are a couple of hardcore makeup junkies and we very much enjoy enabling one another. The photo posted by @beautylogicblog has caused a wide spread makeup-gasm. The rumor has it that this palette will be release in November with a sweet price tag of only $59. Not sure how much I believe that, but we'll see. I can't wait to see more pictures of this palette. I'm always overwhelmed with all the Fall makeup releases every year. Read: BUY ALL THE THINGS! This one definitely looks to be worth the wait. I need you in my life!

Spit It Out!

What do you think? Will you be adding this to your collection? Do you think it's a bit redundant or a great addition?

The Electric Palette Challenge - Day #1

I have been seeing a slew of pictures floating around Twitter and Instagram with the #ElectricChallenge tag and realized that I had not actually used my Urban Decay Electric palette since I bought it. Please don't tell my boyfriend!  So, I was pretty excited to attempt this challenge. During my trial run I was pretty impressed by how easily I was able to create a very wearable, not-too-loud look. These shadows blend amazingly well with neutral shades and you can achieve a beautiful (and totally work appropriate) look. Each day this week I will be trying out a new look and hopefully by Friday I will have used all of the colors in the palette.

Day #1 - Leeeerve it. Fer reelz. I cannot believe this came from the vibrant, drag-worthy amazingness that is the Electric palette. I added shadows from the Laura Mercier Artist palette as well as the UD Naked 2. Not Shown: Blackout. I used a small bit to deepen the outer corner. I am really happy with how this one turned out and I am definitely excited for the rest of the week!

Spit it Out!

Do you own this palette? Have you used it yet? If so, what is your favorite color combination? I would love to see your #ElectricChallenge pics! Post them on Twitter and tag me @BeautyOfApathy or on Instragram @beautyofapathy.

~*The Perfect Palette*~

One of my favorite things to watch on YouTube are the Perfect Palette Tag videos and since eyeshadow palettes are my favorite beauty products to buy I figured I would steal their tag questions. Because I'm a rebel like that...

Best Packaging : Sigma Paris Palette

I waited so long to buy this palette because I just wasn't sure I would love it. I had looked at pictures and watched videos of it dozens of times. I loved the look of it but I had never tried any Sigma products so I was on the fence about it for a long time. I am glad I finally broke down and ordered it. The whole thing is gorgeous. The colors are very pigmented and beautiful and the brushes are excellent. This one has its own special place on my vanity because I love looking at it so much!

Best Color Payoff: Urban Decay Electric Palette

I had a hard time choosing a palette for this category as I have a lot of palettes with great color payoff. Urban Decay and Lorac both make some of the best eyeshadows and I have A LOT of palettes from both companies. I settled on the Electric palette because it has THE best color payoff than all the others. And I would hope so as they are actually pressed pigments. If your pigments aren't very pigmented... you fail. These colors are so pretty and so vibrant I can't even stand it!

Most Versatile: Lorac Pro Palette #1

I know a lot of people chose this one for their most versatile palette and for good reason. Your options are endless and the fact that there are just as many mattes as shimmers it eliminates the need for an extra palette or other single shadows. You can easily go from day to night, use it to highlight and contour, and travel light all with this one palette.

Best For Travel: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lavish Palette & bareMinerals Ready To Go Complexion Palette

I kind of cheated with this category. I picked two as I felt the bareMinerals palette needed a spot on this list. I love the Lavish palette for travel as it is super sleek and fits easily in your purse or makeup bag. It takes up no room at all and it has a nice mix of matte, shimmer, and glitter shadows. The bareMinerals palette is a great full face palette that is useful for on-the-go. You can also use the contour and highlight for your eyes if you're in a pinch. And best of all, the Lavish palette fits perfectly inside the Ready To Go case!

Biggest Regret: Not buying the Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland Palette when I had the chance!

I tried to find a palette that I regretted buying but I came up empty handed. I am very picky when it comes to buying palettes and I do a lot of research before actually making a purchase so I don't really have any duds. I have a few palettes (BH Cosmetics and ELF) that I bought on a whim and rarely use but I find that they are great for Halloween and other costumed events. Not to mention, sometimes I need a color that isn't in my "good" palette collection and I always manage to find it stashed away in these palettes.

Best Color Names: theBalm Balm Jovi Palette

Do I really need to explain this one? I think not.

Least Used: Urban Decay Mariposa Palette

I have a love/hate relationship with this thing. It's adorable and the colors are great. However, every once in a while I will look in my palette drawer and think, "Why don't I ever use this?!" Then I attempt to open it and I am remind what a piece of shit the packaging is!

Most Loved: Laura Mercier Artist Palette #2

I love everything about this palette! I was tempted to buy a backup and I am still kicking myself for not doing so. I WILL cry when this is gone. The packing is so classy and elegant. I love the texture on the outside and the magnetic closure. The shadows are soooo pretty and buttery and blendable. Can I use any more adjectives...?! This is definitely my all-time favorite palette. Why didn't I buy an extra one?!

I am sure by next year I will have a new list. I'm not even kidding when I say I have a palette addiction. I'm still on the hunt for a blush and lip palette, though. I've had my eye on theBalm's How 'Bout Them Apples for way too long and I may give in soon...

Review: NEW! Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

Urban Decay is so badass and awesome that they had a great mascara giveaway a few weeks back. I was lucky enough to snag one. Not because I didn't already have a drawer full of unused and half used mascaras to last me a lifetime... but I just can't help myself when it comes to naughty named makeup!

I really didn't have any great expectations for this new product. As I said, I have a hundred mascaras and only one that I would shank a bitch for (CoverGirl LashBlast 24 Hour, in case you were wondering.) Not to mention, Too Faced seriously let me down with that "Better Than Sex" tube full of lies they are currently shoving in our faces. So, I was quite skeptical about this new sample. However, I was immediately impressed by how it applied. It was that not too wet, not too dry formula I have a hard time finding and the brush surprisingly didn't gouge my eyes out (I'm looking at you, Too Faced!) I am usually a one coat kind of girl when it comes to mascara but I figured I would try a second just to see how it went and since a lot of ladies seem to go with two coats.

Sans Mascara:

One Coat:

Two Coats:

 Final Verdict:

I am definitely loving this mascara. It wore well through the day and had very little fall out by the time I took it off at night. I will probably stick to one coat as it does begin to look a bit spidery with two but I could easily pull it off for a dark night time look. If I ever run out of mascara I will be sure to repurchase this one!

What is Beauty of Apathy?

When first delving into the world of makeup and beauty a girl can easily get overwhelmed with too much information, too many options and worst of all, too many rules. No blue eyeshadow! No white after Labor Day! Yes to winged liner and red lips! Do this! Don't do that! Well, around here we make our own damn rules and we do whatever the hell makes us feel good.

As I launched myself further into the beauty and makeup industry I realized that there really are no rules with makeup or hair and there is no longer a generic image of the women we are supposed to strive to be. We have the opportunity to define our own standards of beauty and make our own choices in what color eyeshadow to wear and what size we should be. Don't follow the same, boring beaten down path that everyone else has chosen. Make your own trail. Be a trendsetter. And don't be offended if someone follows your lead. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Beauty of Apathy is a place where I can provide my own insights, experiences and some smart-assed (and not so smart-assed) opinions. This is a place that welcomes diversity and encourages open discussion. So put on some neon yellow eyeliner and don your "fat" pants (or don't) and join the conversation.
